Brasília is not a state but the federal capital of Brazil. Located in the central-western region of the country, it was officially inaugurated as the capital in 1960. The city is known for its unique and innovative urban planning, as it was designed by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and urban planner Lúcio Costa. Brasília is celebrated for its modernist architecture and layout, characterized by the distinctive shape of its buildings, including the National Congress, the Presidential Palace, and the Supreme Federal Court, all designed by Niemeyer. The city’s design, which resembles an airplane from above, was a deliberate departure from the traditional colonial-style capitals of other Brazilian states.

Brasília is not only the seat of the federal government but also a cultural and administrative hub. The city features various cultural institutions, museums, and a vibrant arts scene. It is home to a diverse population and serves as the headquarters for many government agencies and international embassies. The city’s forward-thinking urban planning and architectural landmarks have earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it a must-visit destination for architecture enthusiasts and those interested in modern Brazilian history and culture.
